Fancy a little sand and sea to go with your lead this summer? Tiny Pencil is joining Atlantic Press in Falmouth for an exhibition and series of drawing events at 64 Killigrew Street!
Featuring a specially curated exhibition of original drawings, this two week mini-fest also includes special drawing events! Comics marathons, book-making sessions, drop-in pencil-drawing, and a giant collaborative pencil drawing based on Cornish folklore! Check out event details below!
THE BIG DRAW! COLLABORATIVE DRAWING!
Cornwall has a rich tapestry of myths and legends from Piskies to Mermaids, Giants and Owlmen. Falmouth Bay is home to Morgawr a ‘plesiosaur-like cryptid’ sighted from time to time – their own Cornish Nessie! Watch these creatures come to life in pencil on the wall of 64 Killigrew as local artists take turns wielding their pencils on a large-scale collaborative drawing. Taking inspiration from Cornish legend and folklore, the illustrators will create a dystopian diorama of epic proportions based on the theme ‘As Above, So Below’.
Artists already confirmed to join include: International children’s book illustrator Caroline Pedler; Award-winning Illustrator and Tiny Pencil contributor Tom Hubmann; The weird and wonderful Jimp; insane comics genius Pete Murgatroyd; Tiny Pencil and Atlantic Press illustrator John D. Kilburn, enigmatic irish myth Dav Steed and 64 Killigrew street’s anarchic virtuoso Vincent Larkin….Watch this space for further updates and some very special guests.
If you’d like to take part, e-mail john@johndkilburn.com with some examples of your work. (Materials generously provided by Derwent Pencils.)
THE COMICS MARATHON!
A select band of artists will be forging graphite masterpieces over four days during the festival.
Every Monday and Tuesday, 30th June, 1st, 7th, and 8th July. 10am – 5pm each day.
(We have ONE remaining place available so if you think you have the skills get in touch! Email john@johndkilburn.com.)
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING SESSIONS
Experiment with pencil! Each Thursday (3rd and 10th July) from 2 – 6 pm come to our observational drawing sessions, where we’ll be playing drawing games and creating images inspired by weird and wonderful treasures found along the Cornish coastline.
DROP IN AND DRAW!
Open drawing sessions every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the show! Drop by the shop, pick up a pencil, and add your drawings to our collection.
All work created during ‘As Above, So Below’ event will be showcased online. And all artists will be considered for future publications (we’re always on the lookout!)
