It’s been almost two weeks since Tiny Pencil launched its inaugural issue at Gosh! Comics in Soho, London and we’ve been busy as ever. It was a fantastic night and massive props to Tom Oldham, Mike Medaglia and the whole team at Gosh! Comics for hosting us. And special thanks to Derwent Pencils for sponsoring the launch and supporting independent artists in the UK!
Here’s a quick round up of went down on the night, starting with Comics artist ‘n Gosh! Comics bubbly-supervisor Mike Medaglia below, who helped get things started just before the crowd rolled in!
And then they came….
We had a huge turnout thanks to everyone involved! It was a busy night packed with talk of art, comics and graphite! Co-editor Katriona Chapman (below right) was all smiles after months of hard work and snuck a few moments with guests before having to run off to introduce the live drawers!
Six brave Tiny Pencil artists came from all corners of the country to step up to the challenge of live drawing! Guests were treated throughout the night to the glorious graphite gifts of: Jamie Mills, Vanessa Foley, John D. Kilburn, Kristyna Baczynski, Nick Sheehy and Stuart Whitton!
Graphite Guru Stuart Whitton (above) showed us how to do it with a Derwent, one lucky guest got to take away his drawing at the end of the night. Launch poster artist John D. Kilburn also took the stand and resisted running off with all the pencil prizes below.
Kristyna Baczynski (creator of the awesome Issue 1 back cover!) rocked the mechanical pencil (above), while cover artist Nick Sheehy (aka Showchicken) showed us how to do it with beer at hand.
Vanessa Foley (below) was gracious as always with her old skool graphite and wood.
Jamie Mills (below), who did the gorgeous tree in a glass box drawing in the photo above, was first up on the live draw, so he got to spend the rest of the night looking dapper and inspecting copies instead…
And all through the night guests perused the pencil work…
…and mingled under bright lights in the big city…
Issue 1 artist Sandra Dieckmann (above right)sparkled with guests over glasses of bubbly! While we traded tiny secrets with Teenytinysaurs artist/author Gary Northfield.
The evening also ended with a big prize giveaway thanks to our generous sponsors the Derwent Pencil Company!
Thanks to their generous support and our amazing artists, people went home inspired and equipped to start penciling! (Pencillers take note! The deadline for the inaugural Derwent Art Prize is July 1st! Read about it here and get submitting!) And stay tuned for some more sponsored goodies from Derwent coming up soon!

Must. Go. Draw. Now!
It was truly a brilliant evening and we had a fabulous time! Massive thanks to everyone who made Issue 1 possible and came to the launch!
